WOMEN & BIOSPHERE: Stories to Tell

The photography competition “Women & Biosphere: Stories to Tell” was created to highlight the crucial role of women in sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and natural resource management worldwide and in the three Biosphere Reserves of Emilia-Romagna: the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, the Po Grande River, and the Po Delta. Furthermore, “Women and Biosphere” aims to metaphorically represent the element of water, the basis of life on our planet in all its forms, from the natural environments, fauna, and flora that surround us, as a feminine “element.”.
The initiative represents the evolution of the process initiated in the 2023/24 two-year period, which saw the mapping of the presence of women, including in senior roles, in local public bodies, institutes, and other territorial entities, culminating in the establishment of the “Biosphere Reserve Women’s Network,” created to disseminate good practices among the many professionals working in Biosphere Reserves and inspire younger generations.
